Autumn Term News Update - November 11th 2008
Staffing
Mrs Loftus has taken on her new role as Deputy Head teacher. She will continue as Year 2 class teacher. Mrs Frary will teach Year 2 on Wednesdays and Fridays when Mrs. Loftus is carrying out her senior leadership duties and preparation and assessment tasks.
Mr Perkins will continue as Year 4 class teacher until the end of term. Parents will be informed of arrangements from January as soon as they are confirmed.
Attendance
I would like to remind all parents of the importance of being on time for school and attending regularly. Starting the day with the rest of the class and being involved in all class activities helps the children to be settled in school and make best progress. On those occasions when your child is too ill to be in school please let the office or the class teacher know.
“Bully’s Paradise”
Thank you to the FRIENDS for funding this presentation. The children thoroughly enjoyed the theatre group who came to school last Friday to present their play “Bully’s Paradise”. The children were entertained whilst thinking carefully about friendship and respecting others. They also thought about how to recognise and deal with bullying. This work will be followed up in school, with a special focus during Anti Bullying Week (17 – 21 November).
Children In Need
This year’s theme is “Do Something Different”. Pupils in Year 6 have organised a dressing up day. They will give each class, and the teachers, a different theme for dressing up. On Friday classes can have fun trying to guess the different themes. Please send a donation for Children in Need with pupils on Friday.
Lunch Time Play
The children are enjoying using with the equipment outside with Miss Duncan and the Y6 play leaders who are doing a great job. Three days a week children will also have the chance to choose to play indoors at lunch time. There will be a rota so that all children have the option of playing indoors and out over time.
Well done!
Following our excellent results in the Key Stage 2 tests, we have received a letter of congratulations from Pete Dwyer (Director of Learning, Culture and Children’s Services) and Jill Hodges (Assistant Director for School Improvement and Staff Development). Their letter expresses their appreciation for “all the hard work, commitment and dedication involved so that pupils can gain such successful results”
Congratulations
The Performance Poetry Group has been selected for the finals of the York Schools Poetry competition. The children will be performing “The Christmas Poem” at Joseph Rowntree Theatre in front of an invited audience. They have done really well to reach the finals and we wish them all the best on Wednesday. Thank you to Mr Perkins for organising and guiding the group.
Thank You
Mrs Glendinning has presented the school with a gift. She has chosen an illustrated cross which will be hung in the Carolann Courtyard where every one can enjoy it.
